Police appeal for mother to come forward after baby’s remains found next to footpath


Police are appealing for a mother to come forward after the remains of a baby were found beside a footpath.

Detectives say the child may have been newborn and fear its mother may need medical and emotional support.

The body was discovered by a dog walker in undergrowth near Seafield Cemetery in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon.

Police Scotland also want people to contact them if they know of any mother who was expecting and is not with their child now.

Detective Chief Inspector David McLaren said: ‘Obviously there is a mother out there who may be in need of medical assistance or emotional support.

‘Our priority at this time is to locate her and provide her with all the help and support we can. If the mother reads this appeal then I would urge her to get in touch, and I want to reassure her that we have her welfare…
