Shocking video footage appears to show the moment an eight-carriage train left the tracks in Spain, killing 78 people and injuring more than 140.
The security camera video, lasting just ten seconds, shows the train rounding a curve near Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, in the north-west of the country, at high speed.
But even before the turn is negotiated, the rear of the train appears to derail, causing the carriages to buckle into those in front.
As the driver’s carriage comes off the tracks and slides on its side towards the camera, the footage cuts out.
The footage was originally obtained and published on the website of Spanish newspaper El Pais before later being uploaded on to YouTube. It has not yet been independently verified.
