Construction Worker Armed With Drill Stops Alleged Hermosa Beach Assault


HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) — A man armed with a power tool was being credited on Thursday with rescuing a 49-year-old woman allegedly being assaulted on a street in Hermosa Beach.

The woman was waiting to cross Pacific Coast Highway with her 9-year-old niece around 6 p.m. on Saturday when a stranger walked by and allegedly slapped the woman’s rear end, police said.

The woman said that when she confronted the man, identified as 30-year-old Joel Jimenez, he allegedly grabbed her by the hair.

The man allegedly began choking her and covered her mouth so she couldn’t breathe, police said.

The woman’s niece began screaming for someone to call 911, witnesses said.

Several people rushed to help her, including a construction worker armed with a cordless drill.

Witnesses said that the worker was able to convince the man to let go of the woman.
