Gauge Containing Radioactive Material Goes Missing

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Officials are searching for missing gauges containing radioactive materials.

DEP officials say the gauges fell off of a truck traveling along Interstate 81 in West Virginia on May 3.

They believe they fell off between mile markers 17 and 24 near the Pennsylvania and West Virginia border.

“It is critical for anyone who has information about the lost nuclear gauge to contact the Pennsylvania DEP, Nuclear Regulatory Commission or a local law enforcement agency immediately,” DEP Bureau of Radiation Protection Director David Allard said in a statement. “As long as the device is not tampered with or damaged, it p

resents no hazard to public safety.”

The gauge is described as a Troxler Model 3430 with serial number 32506. It’s bright yellow in color and about the size of a shoebox.

Anyone who finds it is asked to leave it alone and call officials with its location…
