Three people have died and six remain unaccounted for after a cargo ship crashed into a control tower in the port of Genoa.
Two males and one female, in her 30s, are thought to have died after the Jolly Nero vessel slammed into the Italian harbour.
Four people have also been taken to hospital, with some of the missing reported to be trapped in the control tower lift.
Stefano Messina, who owns the liner, said: ‘We are all utterly shocked. Nothing like this has ever happened before, we are desperate.’
Images from the port shown on Italian television showed the control tower tilted to its side.
Genoa newspaper Il Secolo XIX said on its website the crash occurred at around 11pm local time during a shift change, making the accounting of staff more difficult. It added at least three bodies had been recovered.
