HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A man armed with a machete surrendered to police early Wednesday morning following a seven-hour standoff.
The standoff started around 10 p.m. Tuesday after authorities received calls about a man threatening several people with a machete at an apartment building in the 1700 block of North Fuller Avenue in Hollywood, Los Angeles police said.
The suspect, 28-year-old Oliviero Bozzi, eventually threw the sword into the complex’s pool before he barricaded himself inside his fifth-floor unit, police said.
The apartment building was evacuated as a precaution.
The standoff ended around 5 a.m. after SWAT officers fired at least six rounds of a tear gas-like agent into the apartment.
