Two Dead After Wrong-Way Driver Crash In Denton

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Two people were killed Saturday morning in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 35W at FM 2449 in Denton.

Denton police spokesman Officer Orlando Hinojosa said several 9-1-1 calls came into the Denton emergency call center around 6:20am reporting a wrong-way driver going southbound in northbound traffic on I-35W.

He said a Honda Accord being driven by a man identified as Juan E. de la Cruz, 25, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it crossed the center median and struck another car head-on.

Two other cars behind the crash site took evasive action to avoid the crash, but wrecked, too.

De la Cruz, who carried an Illinois driver’s license, and 55-year-old Amy Lynne Morrow of Rhome, the driver of the Highlander, were pronounced dead after the head on collision at the scene.
