Plane Lands Without Gear at Spirit of St. Louis

CBS St. Louis

CHESTERFIELD, MO (KMOX) – A plane made a belly landing at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield Wednesday morning.

Monarch Fire Protection District Fire Marshall Roger Herrin said the pilot was the only person on the Cessna Centurian P210 and he did a good job setting it down.

“It landed on its belly with no landing gear, slowed to a stop, safely, mind you, with moderate damage to the underside of the aircraft and propeller,” he said. “No injuries.”

Herrin said there was some smoke in the cockpit which was a concern because the plane was carrying 80 gallons of fuel but no fire broke out.

Herrin believes the pilot is a local man but that had not been confirmed as of Wednesday morning.
